My Candy Nightmares, 2021

This new body of work is an ongoing exploration of my anxieties and addiction to sugar, to celebrate the joys and flaws of this fragile condition. My sculptures bring awareness that our desire for consumption is an escape from ourselves and uncomfortable emotions. These works embody my love-hate relationship with sugar and serve as memento mori. I want the viewer to know that they are not alone in this pain, we are all fighting the same battle and we can find peace together.

During the pandemic, stuck alone in my apartment filled with anxiety, my sugar addiction went into overdrive. The result is a visual evolution where color is introduced through various clay bodies and glazes painted over emotive monstrous forms in a new body of work called “My Candy Nightmares.”  The juxtaposition of white porcelain and rainbow colored ice cream monsters are the pendulum of emotions of my internal struggles translated into visual sculptural forms.

These pieces are a part of my latest solo exhibition at Talon Gallery in Portland, Oregon in November 2021. For purchasing information please go to this link or email the gallery at gallerist@talongallery.com.
